So I was considering apping a character who is, unfortunately, from an ongoing non-localized smartphone game. Google is telling me the only English language fan resource by other people is a singular sub-reddit, so I assume, going by info on the apps page, that this means I would need to app this character AU. However, I'm not 100% clear on what would count for this.

Do I need to come up with a standard AU like "this character joined the party earlier/is in a different faction/had a different upbringing" etc? Or shave off the serial numbers and say they're My Totally Unique OC? Or do I just need to say it's """"AU"""" (technically not very AU but I'm saying it's AU because nobody can prove it is or isn't)?
I assumed it was the first, but I just wasn't sure since the reason for AUing is "the mods can't check against the original plot/etc in the first place".
