The Aurora

A massive magical train that travels through space, the Aurora is home base for your characters. It contains all you need to survive and provides relative safety from the dangers of darkened Stars. Any upgrades made to the Aurora are retained when traveling, so you can carry your progress with you.

Bigger on the inside - From outside, the Aurora appears to be a regular passenger train. Look in the windows and you'll see simple passenger carriages with wooden benches and not much else. The only sign things aren't as they seem is the small electronic lock on each car's door. However, the interior doesn't remotely match that simple appearance. In reality, the train's facilities are spacious and modern, as if they're in a completely different dimension. Doors all open on the right, with a tap of one's Chain against the lock. Just inside a corridor runs down that side of the train, with padded benches, end tables, and potted plants under the windows, and a plush carpet down the center. In the communal cars the carpet is charcoal grey, but team carriages have carpet in their colour. The cars are closely connected, so the passage from one to another doesn't expose them to the outside -- instead it's just more corridor. From the corridor, there's an internal door into each car's functional rooms. Team carriages require a member's Chain to be tapped in order to enter the actual dorm area.

Upgrades - Every time a Prism milestone is reached, along with the partial restoration of the Star comes an upgrade to the Aurora. Progress is tallied via the number of sparks earned overall throughout the game, and the current tally can be seen here. When we reach a new milestone, there will be a post in the IC comm detailing the restoration to the star. These posts will include a toplevel with The Construct opening up suggestions for the new addition to the train. After a week, submissions will be gathered and posted as an IC poll lasting another week. When the poll closes, a new car will appear with the chosen facility on board.

Communal Facilities

At the front of the train, the driving car is inaccessible to player characters. The windows are blacked out and the door is locked, even to those with destructive abilities. Presumably the physical form of The Construct is there, as well as the Prism that powers the train, but passengers are unable to investigate at this time.

Staring at the first car behind the driver, however, the communal facilities begin. Everything in these cars is accessible by all player characters and will be replaced automatically if lost or destroyed, although it might take awhile if too much is being pilfered or broken too quickly.

Clinic - For convenience and lower foot traffic, the first communal car is the clinic. The first floor is a nurse's office, with ten basic beds, a desk, and a cabinet full of first aid materials. There are bandages, burn, wound, and itch ointments, and simple OTC painkillers, as well as anything else that can be found in a standard first aid kit. Nothing here is equipped to deal with more than minor injuries, but players are welcome to take over and customize this area.

The second floor on the other hand is for more serious injuries, or even deaths. Instead of beds this room has ten pods that look, roughly, like tanning beds. A seriously injured person (or corpse) can be placed inside, where they'll sleep until totally healed -- a full IC day for a death, but just a few hours for injuries (depending on the severity). However, it takes sparks to power these pods. It's 500 sparks to heal a lesser injury, 750 for a life-threatening one, and 1000 to revive someone, so friends and teammates might want to pool resources if this service is needed.

Lounge Car - The second car first floor is a communal kitchen and dining area. Unlike the smaller household kitchens in team dorms, the one here is a fully equipped commercial kitchen, capable of handling bigger events or simply giving passengers a more public venue to cook for non-teammates. Unfortunately, there are no actual food supplies here. Characters must use the staples from their own kitchen, or purchase food or ingredients with sparks.

Outside the kitchen is a public dining area. It's spacious and has plenty of room for events or just using the chairs and tables to dick around. You could host a dinner party, or you could build a chair fort. Along the wall with the door to the kitchen is an oddly open space, as if there was something there that's now removed.

Upstairs in this car is the public lounge. It's a big communal living room area with various seating nooks, couches and chairs surrounding low tables. There's a cabinet for games and other activities, but it's currently empty. One wall is largely taken up by a TV screen, which displays various tips on being friendly and keeping safe against Malice. If a memory loss character takes a public memory, it'll be played on this screen, and any public announcements from The Construct will appear here as well.

Garden Car - On the outside it looks like one of the communal cars, with a stylized flower symbol on the door. Inside, however, it's a huge greenhouse. There are several different "rooms", each about 50 feet square, aligned to different climates. It also comes with various basic gardening tools - trowels, gloves, etc -- and enough seedlings to get started growing flowers and veggies. There's always (artificial) sunshine coming down through the glass roof, and the soil in the beds never loses fertility. There are even benches here and there -- it's not only a practical facility, but a nice place to relax!

More seeds and seedlings, equipment, and decor, can be bought via the sparks shop. You may in the meantime assume any simple plants you want are provided -- but they won't be re-issued for free if you kill them!

Gym - Pass through the garden car to find the new gym. It consists of several rooms: a weight room, a room of various machines, a studio for yoga or dance, and a training hall fully equipped with practice weapons according to the tastes of everyone already on the train. Each room is entered from a small lobby containing a few couches and a vending machine that pops out custom smoothies and cold water bottles -- which somehow only works after you've had a workout.

Library - Behind the gym is the library. Near the entrance from the hall you'll find a terminal with a list of all available books. Searching a title will give you the location of the book on the shelves. If a title isn't currently in the library, you may request a copy be added, and it will show up within a few minutes. The library currently has two floors of shelves, containing books that characters who are or have been on the train would find familiar. If the book is common in your character's world or they have a close knowledge of it, they can probably find it here. There are, however, a disproportionate number of romances...

There's also a central reading area, with tables and comfortable chairs for studying or lounging. And a good thing, because if you attempt to remove a book from the library it'll disappear right from your hands to return to the shelves. No late returns for you, Crow lazybones!

Team Carriages

Each team has their own carriage, a car with a private home for the team. They all contain small, home-sized kitchens, living rooms, and laundry closets, and a bathroom with enough toilet and shower stalls for everyone on the ground floor, and private bedrooms on the upper floor. For details on carriage decor and any upgrades, see the team page.

Stars

Each plot arc is the restoration of one darkened Star, a city-sized planet with themed environments and creatures. Our goal is to purify the Prism on each star -- a glowing cube-shaped device that gives power to the area and repels the Malice. Purification is done simply by expressing bonds and positive emotions on the Star, with good intentions. This is done with Trials, Events, and Bonds. At milestones (tracked by overall spark generation), the Prism will lighten up by one colour, and a portion of the Star will be restored. Prisms start out glowing black, and progress through purple, blue, green, and white, at which point they're fully purified and the Aurora will move on to its next task.

Our current star and its status will always be posted here. We'll update each time a milestone is reached!

Current Star: Confection Kingdom

prism colour: black

environment: A land made of magical desserts, inhabited by candy creatures and cookie beasts. The Prism lies on a small brownie plateau covered in white grass made of living sugar. Past the train runs a river of golden honey, which falls over the edge down into the peppermint forest below.

The farther one strays from the Prism and the Aurora, the taller the sugar grass gets. After 100 meters or so it becomes a dense brush, dotted by gumdrop boulders and bushes with branches made of cookie and leaves of chocolate. You may even find the honey spring, the birth of the river, surrounded in gumdrop pebbles and fruity-smelling moss. One must be careful, however -- corrupted by Malice, these tasty treats are often poisonous, and there are sickly sweet enemies crawling about.

As of now, there's no way to leave the plateau. Those who attempt to climb down will find themselves wrapped in taffy vines and pulled into the darkness, where they'll lose consciousness -- they'll wake up in their bed a few hours later, feeling nauseous and unsettled.

notable creatures in corrupted areas:

Gingerbread Ghouls - faceless gingerbread men smeared in rancid frosting that smells awful and makes you feel lightheaded. They are as hard as rock, but somehow nimble, and will try to beat you down and break your bones. They can be defeated with hugs.

Taffy Vines - Denizens of the forest, they reach out and spirit away anyone who tries to venture down from the plateau.

Marshmallow Bunnies - They're living Peeps. The brightly-coloured sugar coating them causes uncontrollable crying when touched or ingested, but the marshmallow itself is very tasty.

Cookie Plants - Various brush and weeds around the Star with equally various effects. Some are poisonous, some cause emotional or mental effects. You may make up any such plant for your posts at will!

Lemon-peel Eels - Within the honey river are these candied lemon monstrosities. Brushing against them causes a shock, and they will try to eat you!
