Respect the Game

Listen to the mods - While we're always excited to hear your ideas, please understand that it's up to us to make the final call on any potential changes. Communicate with us if you have a problem or if you feel something is unbalanced or otherwise hard to play with, but if the major tone or mechanics of the game don't suit you, please find a different game rather than asking us to change this one.

Keep the tone/format in mind - Aurora Express won't have a lot of forced PvP, but it isn't Slice of Life. There will be dark themes. Characters will get hurt and die. By apping into the game you're accepting the fact that your character is going to face some hardships and trauma. Bad things will happen to everyone! However, we also expect players to keep the potential consequences in mind before inciting major PvP such as murder sprees or mangle posts. You can make this kind of post but if it gets out of hand and/or is detrimental to the game's progress you'll be asked to stop. That said PvP in general is fine and we welcome villain characters! We just won't be pushing PvP with the plot, and we don't want the game to become hostile to cooperation between teams.

Additionally, this is a teamnesia game and will use familiar teamnesia game mechanics and lingo. This means there is no network and event posts will usually not have prompts! The mods will post a set-up and expect you to take initiative and decide for yourself what your character is doing. You are not expected to put multiple prompts in your top-levels and posts, but you are expected to be spontaneous and be willing to put yourself out there without the mods holding your hand. If you've never played in this kind of game, or in an "ecats" style game at all, it may take some adjustment. If you get confused, don't worry! The mods are here to help. But if you're not interested in that style of play at all, this isn't the game for you.

Be an adult - You must be 18+ to play in Aurora Express! Players caught lying about their age will be banned, as will any players who knowingly helped them break the rules.

Be organized - When you make or respond to a post, please tag it with your character's name as listed on the taken list. When you wish to hiatus or drop, please use the proper form. In general, we ask that you be considerate of the mods' time and do your part of housekeeping.

Be Active - Activity Check runs from the 1st - 7th of each month. In order to pass, your character must have participated in a public Bond, a Trial, or an event post. There are no comment counts, but threads should have some kind of significant threading (no 5-comment smalltalk threads). There will be no warning lists -- you must reply to AC during the alloted time. Any players seen to repeatedly idle will be asked not to app again.

Repect Other Players

Use Your Permissions - It's important that players communicate with each other when violence or other potentially troubling content is being played. To that end, please make sure your info page is filled out all the way before you play. Be honest about your "no"s and be respectful of other players' likes and dislikes as well. Additionally, we have a spreadsheet to keep track of "do not want"s for the game at large. If you're not sure about something, go ask!

Be Accessible - Since this is a team game, it's vital that players are available for contact by their teammates, especially when Trials are being run. For that reason all players are required to join the Discord server. You don't have to hang out, but we do expect you to be around during collaborative events in order to participate in group decision making. That said, while we'll ping the server when we post something, all such announcements, info, and Trial sign-ups will be posted to the OOC comm, so if you prefer to stay offline or keep the server muted except for Trials you won't miss anything vital.

Talk it out - If you run into a problem with another player, please do your best to talk to them about it privately. If the problem can't be solved through civil discussion, bring it to the mods. This includes issues with us -- if a mod has done something inappropriate, don't be afraid to contact another mod with your concerns. We will never share the contents of private conversations, even if it involves one of us! Complaints are all confidential, although the mods may need to to share non-specific, non-personal information to solve a problem (e.g. we have to tell someone they're being pushy in order to give them a warning, but we won't tell them who complained).

Don't Be Rude - Follow the golden rule! Harassment, bullying, godmoding, and all other such aggressive behavior is not allowed. Players who break this rule are subject to a warning or, for severe or repeated offenses, a ban. The mods reserve the right to remove players who are creating a toxic atmosphere even if they haven't specifically broken another rule. We also reserve the right to deny entry to potential players with past histories of bad behavior or who have an outstanding conflict with players already in the game.

Warn for content - You are welcome to play out any kind of sexual or violent content, but please mark anything NSFW with a note in the subject line before it starts. If your post itself is NSFW, please put it behind a cut. You're also welcome to move NSFW threads to a post on your journal if you prefer. For sparks/activity purposes, threads moved off-comm still count as long as they're still game canon!

Posting Guidelines

There is no network! - All play in Aurora is done via in-person, commentspam style posts. There's a textbox on the IC comm's sticky you can use to post, but keep in mind that this is a commentspam game and you aren't expected to make elaborate posts with multiple prompts (though you may if you like)!

Pay attention to time - As stated in the mechanics page, we move on flex time. That means that rather than a hard OOC/IC day ratio and tracked IC dates, the days progress according to post time. The very first post will take place on "Day 1, morning", and the post following should be something like "Day 1, noon", followed by "Day 1, afternoon", etc. We are aiming for a roughly 3:1 OOC/IC ratio but this isn't strict. If we're going too slow you can make your post up to 1 full day after the previous one, but if we're going particularly fast it's fine to have multiple posts set at the same time.

Public Bonds - If you're making a Bond aimed at everyone (such as Hazel planning a party), in order to keep comment counts manageable it needs to go in its own new post, not in a mingle. One-on-one Bonds or those done directly in response to something happening in another post (such as Senna doing face painting at Hazel's party) can stay in the original post, however.

Use Discord - If you'd like to share your Bond or anything else, please put it in the #links channel in the game discord. You aren't at all required to do this (you can plurk it or not promote it at all), but the channel is there if you want to get more tags, and we do encourage being open to players you may not already know. Mainly, we want to avoid posts getting lost in the comm or in general chat, so if you've posted it in the links channel you can be sure it's been seen.

General vs private posts - General mingles do not have to have a theme/prompt but they should have a general location, and they must be open to everyone. This will be the main type of post for non-Bond, non-Event related play. However, if you want to post something that's closed to your team or to specific CR, you can make a private post. Just indicate that within the "who:" part of the post form.

Broadcast memories - If you're broadcasting a memory, you can post it within a mingle or a new post. You can also make a "memory mingle", so everyone can post memories that're being broadcast on the same IC day. However, depending on how many memloss characters we have and how frequent/comment-heavy broadcasts end up being, we may ban them from general mingles in the future.

Sparks generation - Please see the sparks page for an overview of which actions earn how many points. Also, please use the !bonds tag on the main comm or put [bond] in your comment subject line if you want your Bond to count towards community goals.
